SUSTO MEZCAL - ONLINE
Susto Mezcal is a super-premium hand-crafted mezcal produced jointly in Oaxaca, Mexico, and based in Austin, Texas. It’s made with 100% Agave Espadín joven (young) using traditional artisanal methods.
Flavor & Profile
• Tasting notes: It’s smoky (but balanced, not overpowering), with sweet agave, hints of vanilla, tropical fruit (pineapple noted), and earth and floral tones.
• Finish / character: Smooth and approachable even for people new to mezcal, yet with enough complexity to satisfy more experienced palates.
Origin of the Name & Philosophy
• Name “susto”: Comes from Mexican folklore. Susto means fear or fright—often a kind of spiritual or emotional shock that’s believed to separate the soul from the body. Traditionally, curanderos (healers, shamans) help in rituals to “heal” that separation, sometimes offering a sip of mezcal as part of the healing. SUSTO Mezcal is built around this idea: healing, reconnecting, grounding.
• Mission & values: It’s women-founded, community-oriented, focused on authenticity and craftsmanship, and giving back to the Oaxacan community. A portion of sales is donated to support educational scholarships in Oaxaca.
People Behind Susto
